University of New Mexico – Hospitals is currently seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team at the Pre-Anesthesia Clinic located in Los Lunas, NM. This is a full-time, day-shift position (1.00 FTE) that offers a sign-on bonus and a competitive hourly pay range from $16.99 to $26.78, determined by experience, education, and other organizational considerations.

In this dynamic role, you will perform a wide variety of front and back office duties to support comprehensive patient care across diverse age groups, ranging from neonates and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics. Your daily responsibilities will help ensure efficient clinic operations and maintain a high standard of patient safety and satisfaction.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Collecting patient data, obtaining medical history, recording vital signs, and performing initial patient screenings and intakes.
  • Assisting healthcare providers with treatment procedures, setting up sterile fields, chaperoning, and supporting admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Performing routine non-invasive and invasive procedures such as phlebotomy, EKG recordings, ear irrigations, and administering approved medications following proper training and protocols.
  • Managing administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, entering and verifying computer data, and performing basic cashiering duties when required.
  • Maintaining a clean, sanitary work environment, stocking supplies, and ensuring adherence to hospital and departmental safety policies.

Qualifications for this opportunity include:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program, or alternatively, two years of medical assistant experience demonstrated via DD Form 214.
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers or BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of the UNMH MA Safe Medication Administration course within 90 days of hire.
  • No minimum prior experience is required, though one year of directly related experience is considered a plus.

Working in this environment involves physical demands such as heavy work requiring the ability to exert significant force to move objects or patients. Candidates should also be aware that working conditions include potential exposure to biohazardous materials and chemicals requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), tuberculosis testing upon hire, and possible rotation of work shifts or travel to various work sites.
