Optum New Mexico is seeking a dedicated Palliative Care Physician to join our clinician-led care team in Albuquerque. As part of the Optum Care Delivery network, you will be supported by the clinical resources, data, and stability of a global organization while helping patients live healthier lives in a collaborative, diverse environment.

In this role, you will specialize in medical care that focuses on providing relief from pain and other symptoms related to chronic or serious illnesses. You will lead an interdisciplinary team in managing high-risk patients, facilitating transitions of care, and improving the overall quality of life for individuals dealing with life-limiting conditions. Care is primarily managed in the patient’s home, with occasional in-office visits as needed, and is provided in partnership with primary care physicians and specialists.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the transition of care management for patients coming out of the hospital or skilled nursing facilities, directing a complete continuum of quality-based care within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Consult with patients to understand their health concerns, providing effective treatment for pain and symptom relief to improve their quality of life.
  • Consult and coordinate closely with primary care physicians, nutritionists, social workers, nurses, and other specialists as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Current M.D./D.O. medical license in the state of New Mexico, or the ability to obtain prior to start.
  • New Mexico Pharmacy/DEA Registration, or the ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Critical Care, Palliative Care, or Geriatrics.
  • Background working in a managed care setting with medically complex patients.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare Advantage Risk plans, HEDIS measurements, and value-based care delivery.

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $229,050 to $378,000, determined by factors such as local labor markets, education, and experience, and supplemented by performance and productivity.
