Optum is seeking a dedicated Palliative Care Physician to join our clinician-led care team. In this role, you will manage high-risk patients coming in and out of the hospital or skilled nursing facilities, as well as those with life-limiting illnesses. You will specialize in medical care focused on providing relief from pain and other symptoms related to chronic or serious illness, with the aim of improving comfort and quality of life. Palliative care is provided in tandem with regular treatment and in partnership with the patient’s primary care provider, primarily managing care in the patient’s home with occasional in-office visits as needed.
- Support the transition of care management for patients coming out of the hospital or skilled nursing facility, directing and managing a complete continuum of quality-based care within an interdisciplinary team.
- Consult with patients to understand their health concerns and treat patients to provide relief from pain and other symptoms related to chronic or serious illness.
- Consult and coordinate with patient’s primary care physician and other specialists, nutritionists, social workers, and nurses as needed.
- Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health.
Required qualifications for this position include an M.D. or D.O. degree, being Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, possessing a current MD/DO medical license in the state of New Mexico (or the ability to obtain), and holding a New Mexico Pharmacy/DEA Registration (or the ability to obtain). Preferred qualifications include experience in critical care, palliative care, or geriatrics, experience in a managed care setting working with medically complex patients, working knowledge of Medicare Advantage Risk plans, and an understanding of HEDIS measurements and value-based care.
Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $229,500 to $378,000, which includes base pay and bonus based on factors such as local labor markets, education, and work experience, with potential increases based on productivity and performance.
