University of New Mexico Hospitals in Albuquerque, NM is currently seeking a dedicated RN Educator for a full-time, 1.0 FTE day shift position within the Adult IP Admission Unit. This role functions as a unit educator, master teacher, and master preceptor, facilitating evidence-based research and incorporating nursing processes into specialized patient care plans across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Sign-on bonuses and relocation assistance are available for eligible candidates.
Compensation for this role is based on several factors, including education, experience, and other business considerations, with a minimum pay offer of $34.32 per hour and a maximum pay offer of $46.82 per hour.
Key responsibilities for the RN Educator include:
- Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care and initiate unit-based strategies for developing clinical skills using the master clinician and master preceptor model.
- Maintain clinical skills by acting as a clinical instructor for students from the College of Nursing on the home unit, assisting with unit staffing, and delivering safe direct care to assigned patients.
- Develop patient care plans incorporating evidence-based research and national standards, while consulting as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
- Educate staff on the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments, and coordinate in-service training and workshops.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialty RN, or Unit Director to plan and implement pertinent educational curricula.
- Monitor clinical trends, implement strategies to achieve quality standards, and assist patients and caregivers with educational needs across the continuum of care.
- Administer medications (including IV medication via the Seven Rights), write treatment plans, and coordinate patient drug and procedure activities.
- Follow and proactively support patient safety policies, report medical errors or near misses, and encourage patient participation in their own care.
Qualifications required for this position include:
- Education: Essential Bachelor’s Degree (BSN or MSN), with a Master’s Degree in Nursing considered nonessential.
- Experience: 18 months of directly related experience is required; bilingual skills in English, Spanish, or regional Native languages and 3 years of directly related experience are listed as nonessential.
- Credentials: Essential credentials include CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers (within 30 days), an RN license in New Mexico or via reciprocal agreement, and Unit-Required Instructor Certifications obtained within 90 to 365 days depending on specific requirements.
- Physical and Working Conditions: Classified as heavy work involving the occasional exertion of 50 to 100 pounds of force. The role involves exposure to significant hazards such as chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring PPE, along with mandatory tuberculosis testing upon hire and as required.
