About this job

Optum is seeking a Statewide Nurse Practitioner Traveler to join our Home Based Medical Care team in Iowa. As part of a clinician-led care organization, you will have the clinical resources, data, and support of a global organization behind you to help patients live healthier lives in a collaborative, diverse environment.

This role offers financial incentives, including a $40,000 Student Loan Repayment or a $25,000 Sign-on Bonus for individuals who have not previously participated in the program. Travel is a major component of this position, requiring travel across the entire state of Iowa approximately 85% of the time, with all travel expenses covered. The salary for this role ranges from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment, plus multiple incentives and a comprehensive benefits package subject to eligibility requirements.

Primary responsibilities for the Statewide Nurse Practitioner Traveler include:

  • Manage chronic illnesses in a complex elderly population with multimorbid conditions, focusing on wellness, avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations and ER visits, providing patient education, and improving overall quality of care.
  • Engage new patients with a comprehensive geriatric-focused initial assessment that includes functional, social, and safety evaluations, cognitive screening, and mental health assessments.
  • Triage, diagnose, and treat patients on an urgent basis in the home using an array of equipment and medications.
  • Order and interpret appropriate tests such as x-rays, labs, and EKGs, and prescribe treatment within your scope of practice.
  • Collaborate closely with patients’ primary care physicians and specialists as needed, and document visits in a timely manner with a focus on closing quality gap measures.

Required qualifications for candidates:

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license and current state Registered Nurse license.
  • Driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and compliance with the Optum Motor Vehicle Safety policy.
  • Current valid DEA license or the ability to obtain one by the start date.
  • Ability to travel frequently across the entire state of Iowa approximately 85% of the time.

Preferred qualifications include two or more years of clinical experience in primary care, home-based medical care, geriatrics, palliative care, or emergency/urgent care, along with familiarity with coding systems, clinical standards of care, and CMS or Medicaid/Medicare guidelines. Candidates must pass a drug test before beginning employment in our drug-free workplace.
