Scientist II, Delivery (Multiple Teams)

Scientists at Uber use data to improve and automate all aspects of core rideshare and delivery products. We are looking for experienced candidates with a passion for solving new and difficult problems with data to join the Delivery team, which owns all aspects of our delivery experience across eaters, couriers, and merchants. We are currently hiring for multiple teams, including Fulfillment, Consumer, Ads, Offer, and Merchant, all focused on building the most preferred online delivery platform globally.

What You’ll Do:

• Solve ambiguous, challenging business problems using data-driven approaches, including machine learning, optimization, and causal inference.
• Develop and implement statistical and econometric methodologies to improve results validity, power, and generalizability.
• Generate data-driven business insights and collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities and prioritize product, growth, and optimization initiatives.
• Design and analyze experiments, presenting clear results that provide actionable recommendations.
• Drive the creation of logging, metrics, data visualization, diagnostic tools, and experimentation paradigms to support data-driven product development.
• Define how teams measure success by developing core metrics in close partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Own the product development cycle end-to-end from data and science perspectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or another quantitative field. (Candidates with an M.S. degree require a minimum of 1+ years of industry experience; candidates with a Bachelor’s degree require a minimum of 3+ years of industry experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent).
• Strong Python or R foundations and technical expertise.
• Solid knowledge of the underlying mathematical foundations of statistics, optimization, economics, and analytics, alongside experience in experimental design and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing projects across large, ambiguous scopes and driving initiatives in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
• Expertise in synthesizing complex technical analyses into clear insights to influence product direction.
• Excellent communication skills tailored for technical, non-technical, and executive audiences.

Salary and Benefits Information:

• For New York, NY and San Francisco, CA-based roles, the base salary range is USD $161,000 per year to USD $179,000 per year.
• For all US locations, employees are eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, and may be offered an equity award and other types of compensation.
• All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan and receive access to various benefits.
