As a Property Adjuster Specialist – Field based in Asheville, NC, you will work within established guidelines to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property insurance claims presented by or against our members. This position utilizes a virtual-first approach combining technology and desk adjusting, supported by a company vehicle to physically inspect losses within your locally assigned territory, with potential travel for regional claims and catastrophe response.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactively managing an assigned caseload of complex property damage claims requiring knowledge of claims coverage and potential legal liability.
  • Investigating damages through research, analyzing complex policy terms and contingencies, and determining settlement amounts within authority limits.
  • Partnering with vendors, internal business partners, and external entities while maintaining thorough and accurate claim file documentation.
  • Utilizing advanced estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare claims estimates.
  • Supporting workload surges, catastrophe response operations, mandatory on-call dates, and potential travel with minimal notice.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with risk, compliance, and state regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Two years of relevant property claims adjusting experience of moderate complexity losses, including writing estimates for dwelling and structural damages.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using tools like Xactimate, alongside a strong understanding of residential construction, property claims contracts, and relevant laws.
  • Strong negotiation, investigation, communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the year (local and non-local) and support catastrophe duty when required.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.
  • Physical capability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds, climb ladders, traverse roofs, work at heights, and crouch or stoop to inspect confined spaces.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet safe driving requirements.

Compensation for this hourly, non-exempt role ranges from $69,920.00 to $133,620.00, with paid overtime available and potential pay incentives based on performance. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
