Software Engineer II, Evaluation & Simulation

Uber is launching AV Labs to accelerate the autonomous technology ecosystem through a high-velocity team of multi-disciplinary experts. Our mission is to turn real-world operations into high-quality data for our autonomous partners, focusing on the complex challenge of unlocking real-world, long-tail driving data. Because autonomy is a data race, Uber leverages rare, real-world driving data at a unique scale and capital efficiency, utilizing millions of trips to capture edge cases and conditions that autonomy has been missing. As a Software Engineer II for Evaluation & Simulation within AV Labs, you will be involved in the development and implementation of the latest technology to evaluate self-driving stacks. The ideal candidate will identify issues, provide solutions, implement fixes, and set a high technical excellence bar across all team initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and deliver software to evaluate self-driving stacks.
• Define metrics for evaluating the performance of self-driving stacks, such as perception, prediction, and planning.
• Write batch pipelines to evaluate self-driving stacks using real-world driving data.
• Explore simulation techniques to enrich the evaluation dataset.

Basic qualifications required for this role:

• Minimum of 2 years of total experience in the self-driving industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
• Proficiency in Python, Linux, Spark, or Ray.
• Familiarity with Machine Learning and statistical analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior experience with Perception, Prediction, or Planning for autonomous vehicles.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles, the base salary range is USD $171,000 per year to USD $190,000 per year. You will also be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, may be offered an equity award and other types of compensation, and can participate in a 401(k) plan along with various other benefits.
