AFCA is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Application Security Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. In this important role, you will embed security across our software development and digital delivery practices, helping us strengthen our overall application security capability while supporting our broader digital transformation program.
This is a hands-on position where you will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and platform teams. Your day-to-day focus will be ensuring that all applications are secure by design and secure by default, spanning web, API, and cloud-native environments. You will work proactively with developers and technical stakeholders to identify risks, guide remediation efforts, and promote a strong security culture across the organisation.
Key responsibilities typically associated with this role include:
- Partnering with software engineering and product teams to integrate security practices throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Conducting security reviews, threat modeling, and vulnerability assessments across web applications, APIs, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Providing technical guidance and best practices to ensure applications are secure by design and secure by default.
- Assisting in the identification, triage, and remediation of security findings and vulnerabilities.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of AFCA’s application security capabilities during an ongoing digital transformation program.
To be successful in this role, you should bring a strong background in application security with practical, hands-on experience securing modern web, API, and cloud environments. You will also possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling you to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams and translate complex security concepts into actionable guidance.
