Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division – a new era of mobile repair. You will be part of a team that brings professional vehicle maintenance and repair directly to customers, extending the RAC’s reputation for roadside rescue into a comprehensive mobile service experience.
Compensation is competitive, with a base salary of £45,378 per year (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance where applicable). On‑target earnings can reach up to £57,000, supported by a guaranteed overtime option that increases your base pay, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities. This role is full‑time, offering 40 hours per week with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and a rota that includes one Saturday in every four.
Key responsibilities include:
- Diagnose faults and perform repairs on a variety of passenger and commercial vehicles using diagnostic tools and manual techniques.
- Carry out routine maintenance, brake work, engine repairs, and bodywork while adhering to safety and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate service records and update vehicle status in the company’s systems.
- Coordinate with the dispatch team to ensure timely arrivals and efficient job completion.
- Inspect and stock tools, equipment, and parts on the mobile unit to guarantee readiness for each call.
- Follow environmental and workplace safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment.
To succeed in this position you will need relevant automotive qualifications and certifications, as well as proven experience as a mobile or roadside technician. Strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently in varied weather conditions, and excellent communication skills are essential. Physical fitness and a clean driving licence are also required.
