L3Harris’ Space and Airborne Systems Space Sector is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Manager, Systems Engineer (Spacecraft Bus Group Lead) to join an engineering organization that works with a variety of external bus suppliers to deliver tested spacecraft buses for integration into the space vehicle. In this leadership role, you will spend part of your time managing a team of spacecraft bus lead engineers and working with programs and suppliers to ensure that spacecraft buses meet all technical, performance, and schedule requirements across the full program lifecycle.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Performing functional management of a small group of spacecraft bus lead engineers and managing staffing allocations against defined engineering resource demands.
- Supporting organizational development through recruiting, mentoring, career development, talent assessments, and performance reviews to ensure appropriate skill sets and resource capacity.
- Providing technical leadership and guidance for the design, development, and integration of the spacecraft bus, ensuring compliance with mission requirements and industry standards.
- Collaborating with internal program teams, including systems engineering, payload engineering, and mission operations, for seamless integration across subsystems and payloads.
- Working closely with external bus suppliers to oversee and review development and delivery, ensuring all technical specifications, performance criteria, and milestones are met.
- Leading and participating in design reviews, such as PDR, CDR, and TRR, as well as overseeing hardware/software integration and environmental testing.
- Driving failure investigations to root cause and implementing corrective and preventative actions while identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical risks.
- Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including design specifications, interface control documents, test plans, and reports.
- The ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
Qualifications and background:
- A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience, a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated experience working at or with a spacecraft bus supplier.
- Experience leading teams of 5+ engineers, including managing budgets and scheduling activities.
- Experience with Hardware/Software integration, testing, and troubleshooting for both flight systems and flatsats/simulators.
- Experience executing all phases of a spacecraft bus program and major design reviews.
