Christus Health is seeking a skilled and experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our dynamic surgical team in Texarkana. In this role, you will work closely with cardiothoracic surgeons and the broader surgical team to provide comprehensive perioperative care, with a primary focus on first assisting in the operating room and performing vein harvesting.
Key responsibilities for this full-time position include:
- Serving as a first assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, such as CABG and valve surgeries.
- Performing vein harvesting utilizing both endoscopic and open techniques.
- Managing pre- and post-operative care in close collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgery team.
- Conducting patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and formulating treatment plans.
- Rounding on post-operative patients in the intensive care unit and on the medical floor.
- Educating patients and their families regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
- Documenting care and procedures accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participating in shared call coverage as scheduled.
Qualified candidates must hold a current Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification, along with current BLS and ACLS certifications. Applicants are required to have a minimum of two years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, with demonstrated proficiency in first assisting and vein harvesting. Strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in high-acuity settings are essential.
