University of New Mexico – Hospitals is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in Enchanted Hills, NM, within the Adult IP Admission Unit. This is a full-time, 1.00 FTE day shift position offering a competitive hourly pay rate ranging from a minimum of $34.32 to a maximum of $46.82, with exact compensation determined by factors such as experience and education. Additionally, sign-on bonuses and relocation assistance are available for qualifying candidates.
In this dynamic role, you will function as a unit educator, master teacher, and master preceptor while delivering specialized, high-quality patient care. Patient care assignments may encompass neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. You will play a vital role in integrating evidence-based research into clinical practice, supporting nursing students, and serving as a key resource for the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care within established clinical protocols.
- Perform as a unit educator and clinical instructor, maintaining hands-on clinical skills by assisting with unit staffing and student instruction.
- Develop comprehensive patient plans of care incorporating evidence-based research and national healthcare standards.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialty RN, and Unit Director to ensure quality outcomes.
- Educate staff on new equipment, supplies, and instruments, and coordinate relevant in-service training and workshops.
- Support patients and caregivers with educational needs, health management, and the admission, transfer, and discharge process.
- Administer medications safely via the Seven Rights, including IV medications, and accurately document all clinical findings.
- Adhere strictly to patient safety protocols, proactively identify and report potential risks, and encourage patient participation in their care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Essential Bachelor’s Degree (BSN or MSN), with a Master’s Degree in Nursing considered nonessential.
- Experience: Essential 18 months of directly related experience. Bilingual skills in English, Spanish, or regional Native American languages, as well as 3 years of directly related experience, are listed as nonessential.
- Credentials: Essential CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers certification within 30 days, current RN license in New Mexico (or as allowed by reciprocal agreement), and required unit certifications or ability to obtain them within specified timeframes.
- Physical Conditions: Heavy Work, requiring the ability to occasionally exert 50 to 100 pounds of force, frequently exert 25 to 50 pounds, and constantly exert 10 to 20 pounds to move objects or people.
- Working Conditions: Exposure to significant hazards including chemicals and bio-hazardous materials requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Tuberculosis testing is required upon hire and periodically thereafter.
