About this job

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. We are seeking a Software Engineer for Vehicle Engineering to join our Artificial Intelligence Software Engineering team and focus on solving complex data problems for our launch vehicles and spacecraft.

In this role, you will be part of a team creating AI systems to accelerate software development and testing, avionics design, flight data review, logistics, and mission operations. Your work will directly support satellite constellations, rapid reuse of the Falcon launch vehicle, and the development of rockets capable of sending humans to Mars. Aerospace experience is not required; we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make a tangible impact.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Develop highly reliable and scalable artificial intelligence pipelines to empower engineers across all departments.
  • Create new AI applications that revolutionize day-to-day operations and build AI-driven data review tools.
  • Collaborate with peers on architecture, design, and code reviews while building prototypes to prove out key AI concepts.
  • Own all aspects of AI software engineering and product development from initial prototyping to deep dives into complex engineering problems.
  • Develop security policies to protect data, establish user-based policies for robust AI standards, and ensure accurate, reliable outputs.

Basic qualifications require a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, math, or physics, OR 4+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree, alongside 1+ years of experience in AI software engineering, full stack development, and data science.

Preferred skills and experience include programming proficiency in Python, C++, or similar languages, building LLM RAG pipelines, fine-tuning models, building agentic workflows, training ML models, and utilizing frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow. Experience with databases (relational, non-relational, vector), containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, Linux systems, version control, and front-end frameworks like React is also beneficial.

Additional requirements include availability to work extended hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines. Compensation is structured with a pay range for Level I ($125,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year) and Level II ($145,000.00 – $175,000.00 per year), with actual placement determined by skills, education, and experience. Total rewards may include long-term incentives, medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off. Applicants must meet U.S. government export regulation requirements under ITAR.
