Uber Technologies, Inc. is seeking a full-time Sr Actuary to join our team in San Francisco, California. In this role, you will help us reimagine the way the world moves for the better, where bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuels progress. The pay rate for this position is $186,000 to $218,000 per year, and you will also be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, potentially receive other types of compensation, and access various benefits detailed on the Uber careers benefits page.
As a Sr Actuary, your core responsibilities and duties will include:
- Identifying and understanding trends with internal data and external data in the macro environment.
- Using data to understand root causes and uncover meaningful business insights.
- Employing advanced statistical techniques using large structured and unstructured datasets in the development of insights.
- Utilizing insights to drive change and catalyze the team to improve operational processes.
- Providing thought leadership to craft solutions and implement changes.
- Communicating analyses to internal and external stakeholders, including Uber Insurance leadership and Claims and Actuarial stakeholders at third-party insurers.
- Supervising at least one actuary.
- Working in a hybrid capacity, with the option to telecommute while adhering to Uber’s in-office expectations for collaboration.
To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a related field, followed by eight years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a related occupation. Additionally, candidates must have eight years of professional experience in the following specific areas:
- Data manipulation using MS Excel, MS Access, SAS, SQL, R, or Python.
- Statistical analysis tools such as Python and R.
- Building models using open-source software like R and Python.
- Working within personal or commercial insurance environments.
- Conducting predictive modeling.
- Selecting and applying actuarial techniques to insurance data.
- Quantifying and applying the impacts of changes in processes to estimate future costs.
