Uber Shuttle is seeking a Senior Scientist to work on next-generation passenger transportation challenges on a global scale. In this role, you will join a dynamic science team responsible for designing vehicle networks, optimizing driver schedules, improving rider experience and pricing, and supporting growth, marketing, and operational processes through quantitative economics, machine learning, optimization, and statistical modeling. This position combines high technical rigor with real-world impact, allowing you to translate scientific ideas into production-ready solutions with a fast-moving, startup mindset.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include developing algorithms and models to support price optimization, transport service optimization, and demand forecasting. You will conduct deep analyses to identify data anomalies, support informed business decision-making, and uncover key insights related to customer behavior. Additionally, you will write robust code for ETL processes, business metrics, model development, testing, and algorithm automation, while producing clear documentation, visuals, and stakeholder communications to share outcomes with product, operations, and leadership teams.
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following basic qualifications:
- Strong programming competence in languages such as Python, Go, or Java.
- Demonstrated expertise in statistics, including statistical testing, modeling, and experimentation.
- Advanced analytics capabilities, including defining metrics, conducting deep-dive investigations using complex data models, and proficiency in SQL, spreadsheets, and data visualization software.
Preferred qualifications that will help you stand out include a PhD in quantitative economics, transportation science, optimization, or a similar quantitative field. Ideal candidates will also bring advanced analytics skills such as causal inference and non-standard A/B testing, data engineering and ETL experience, and familiarity with advanced predictive modeling techniques like deep learning and time-series or stochastic process models.
For San Francisco, CA-based and Seattle, WA-based roles, the base salary range is USD$190,000 per year to USD$211,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, and may be offered an equity award and other types of compensation. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan and are eligible for various benefits.
