  • Drive ongoing efficiency and reliability improvements through design and automation, focusing on availability, performance, scaling, monitoring, and capacity.
  • Manage upstream and downstream dependencies while collaborating effectively with other engineering teams.
  • Mentor, coach, and support fellow teammates to help with their learning and career growth.
  • Define standards in coding, testing, monitoring, and alerting systems, and lead the team to complete them.

What You Will Need:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience as a software engineer building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong coding abilities with clean, elegant, and reliable code in languages such as JavaScript, Java, or Go.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture, including consensus, convergence, data consistency, and performance/efficiency constructs.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to write effective technical specs, translate technical concepts, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate with openness and empathy.
  • Demonstrated initiative and technical leadership in building scalable solutions.
  • An ability to identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber’s cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, employees are expected to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office, though certain roles may require 100% in-office time.
