L3Harris MMG Division is seeking a Senior Aerodynamics & Aircraft Performance Engineer for our onsite facility located in Waco, TX. We offer competitive benefits and a generous relocation package for those who qualify.
In this role, you will perform aerodynamics analysis and provide ground and flight test support for fixed wing and rotary aircraft to evaluate the effect of aircraft modifications on vehicle performance and aerodynamic loads. We are seeking a subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, and handling qualities.
Essential functions of the position include:
- Perform steady-state and time-accurate CFD analyses.
- Plan, support, and execute wind tunnel tests.
- Plan and support aerodynamic design optimization studies.
- Perform comparative analyses of predicted aerodynamics with experimental and/or flight test data.
- Lead method and tool development and enhancement activities.
- Manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction.
- Communicate within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes, and approaches.
- Make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products, and provide input into operational plans with measurable impact.
- Apply a strong understanding of applied aerodynamics theory, computational fluid dynamics, and numerical methods.
- Travel as necessary and work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance, requiring US citizenship.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree (MSME, MSAE) with a minimum of 7 years of prior aircraft aerodynamics experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience is required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses, mesh generation, and post-processing codes.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in wind tunnel testing.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with aircraft performance analysis.
- Must be a US citizen.
Preferred additional skills include experience with Pointwise, NASA FUN3D, and FieldView, as well as store separation analyses and testing. Familiarity with civil and military airworthiness requirements, experience in Matlab/Simulink, high performance computing administration, and aircraft stability analysis are also considered a plus. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office, possess general computer knowledge, and demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
