Bechtel is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Ogden, UT. This role directly supports the United States Air Force Sentinel program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase, providing launch system design, construction, and integration as part of the Northrop Grumman Sentinel nationwide team. We are looking for a dedicated professional with a can-do attitude, strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, and a desire to innovate designs.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepare engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations for electrical systems and equipment in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Work with and mentor junior electrical engineers while collaborating with other technical disciplines in a team environment.
- Develop new design drawings using AutoCAD, including single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, and cathodic protection.
- Perform power system analysis modeling and calculations utilizing ETAP, such as Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Relay Coordination, and Arc Flash.
- Conduct facility calculations including lighting design using AGI 32, facility ground grid sizing, and underground cable thermal de-rating analysis.
- Execute equipment sizing calculations for medium voltage utility and low voltage transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, uninterruptable power supplies, and battery sizing.
- Perform circuit breaker and cable sizing calculations per NFPA 70, incorporating various de-rating factors.
- Develop equipment and material specifications using SpecsIntact, create procurement documentation and scopes of work, and perform supplier proposal evaluations.
- Review vendor submittals and integrate information into the overall design while coordinating systems requirements with systems engineering and the client.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or international equivalent).
- Requires 8-10 years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess an active security clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design principles, systems, engineering drawings, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
- Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and standard engineering and office automation tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Electrical Engineering).
- Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
- Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
- Experience executing engineering design with SmartPlant 3D.
- Experience performing calculations with ETAP.
- Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations related to electrical design requirements.
- Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications or SpecsIntact.
- Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
