L3Harris MMG Division is seeking an experienced Lead Aircraft Stress Engineer for our onsite aircraft modification facility located in Waco, TX. As a Subject Matter Expert with comprehensive knowledge of aircraft structures and static stress, you will play a vital role in ensuring our projects meet all airworthiness standards.

In this dynamic engineering role, you will perform structural analyses on aircraft primary and secondary structures using classical methods and finite-element modeling, while considering all relevant failure modes. You will also provide design support, structural liaison, project leadership, and mentorship to less experienced team members within the Flight Sciences Group.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Predicting internal stresses and structural instabilities in aircraft structures.
  • Generating free-body diagrams, determining reaction forces, and developing shear and moment diagrams.
  • Documenting and reporting analysis results clearly and accurately.
  • Collaborating with the Mechanical Design team to develop load path concepts and size structural features.
  • Reviewing and approving structural engineering drawings during the release process.
  • Automating repetitive analytical tasks and supporting integrated project teams.

Qualifications and requirements for this position include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience, a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Finite-Element Modeling (FEM).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required, along with the ability to travel as necessary.

Preferred skills that will enhance your application include experience with MSC PATRAN/NASTRAN or FEMAP, experience analyzing composite structures, proficiency in Matlab or Mathcad, and familiarity with FAA and/or military airworthiness requirements. Good verbal and written communication skills and general computer knowledge are also highly valued.
